Alternative Energy mission to Turkey from 11 to 16 October, 2009
Part of the economic mission led by State Secretary Frank Heemskerk .
From 11 to October 16, 2009 organize the Ministry of Economic Affairs (EVD) an economic mission led by Secretary of Economic Affairs, Frank Heemskerk, (in his capacity as Minister of Foreign Trade) to Turkey. During this trip provides TIC Turkey in cooperation with the EVD one program for Dutch companies in the alternative energy sector. The emphasis in the program of Turkey depend on the TIC Turkey opportunities in the alternative energy sector in Turkey.
Alternative Energy in Turkey
The (alternative) energy sector in Turkey is opportunity for foreign investors. The country faces energy challenges caused by economic and population growth. Gross question in 2007 was 190,700 GWH. The expectation is that the demand will rise in 2010 to 242,020 GWH.
Currently the rate alternative energy which Turkey produces about 3% of the total, excluding hydropower. The Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Mehmet Hilmi Güler, said that Turkey has indicated that 120 billion dollars of investment needed to create new energy. The Action Plan 2008-2012 for the Turkish energy sector, suggests that alternative energy is on the one of the priorities.
Preliminary Program
During this economic mission, economic heart of Turkey, Istanbul ,will be visited , in addition to Ankara, where all relevant authorities are represented. Finally, Ankara and surrounding region will be visited as well, This region is highly suitable for various forms of alternative energy. Moreover, the city declared 2009 as the year of alternative energy.
During this trip provide the EVD and TIC Turkey the opportunity to get in touch with entrepreneurs, ministries and other relevant institutions. There are also seminars and matchmaking sessions. Matchmaking is based on a personal intake interview.
